# AI agents for trades. *The admin, done while you work.*

 01The basics

## What is an AI agent for trades?

An AI agent is an admin assistant that works inside your job management software. It reads your jobs, quotes and invoices, does one piece of work end to end, *and hands anything that needs judgement back to you.*

 Automation vs agent

### The same overdue invoice, two ways

<small>A fixed automation</small>IF invoice overdue
THEN send email #3- <svg viewbox="0 0 24 24"><path d="M20 6 9 17l-5-5"></path></svg>Sends the same email every time- <svg viewbox="0 0 24 24"><path d="M20 6 9 17l-5-5"></path></svg>Keeps going after a part payment- <svg viewbox="0 0 24 24"><path d="M20 6 9 17l-5-5"></path></svg>Can’t read the customer’s reply

## Agents run on credits, *with a hard ceiling*

You pay for the agent work you use. When your balance runs out, agents pause until you top up, so nothing keeps running and bills you afterwards. The AI dispatcher is part of every plan and never uses credits. Plans are on [UK pricing](/uk/pricing/), and the detail is in the [AI credits guide](https://docs.fieldcamp.ai/getting-started/ai-credits-balance-and-usage).

## AI agents for trades, *answered*

**What are AI agents for field service?**

AI agents are assistants that work inside your job management software. They read your customers, jobs, quotes and invoices, then do a piece of work end to end, such as following up a quote or chasing an invoice, and hand anything that needs judgement to a person.

**How is an AI agent different from an automation?**

An automation follows a fixed rule, like sending the same email when an invoice is overdue. An agent works towards a goal: it reads the situation, answers the customer’s reply, and knows when to stop or hand over to you.

**Can it automate invoice chasing?**

Yes. The Invoice Payment Reminder sends reminders on a cadence set by the invoice due date, answers replies, passes disputes and payment-plan requests to your team, and stops the moment the invoice is paid.

**Does it follow up quotes automatically?**

Yes. The Estimate Follow-Up agent follows up a sent quote by email and answers replies, and it stops when the customer books, replies or declines.

**Do agents act without my approval?**

Only where you allow it. For each action you choose whether the agent does it on its own or asks you first, and you can set rules for the whole business. Every run is logged.

**Do I need to write prompts or build anything?**

No. You start from a ready-made agent, and we set it up with you around your records, your price book and your rules before it goes live.

**What does it cost to run agents?**

Agents run on AI credits with a hard ceiling. When the balance runs out, agents pause until you top up, so there’s no surprise bill. The AI dispatcher is part of every plan and never uses credits.

## Hand over the admin. *Keep the final say.*

Bring a week of quotes and invoices. On the demo you’ll see which agents would take them off your plate, and where they’d ask you first.
