STANDBY POWER · GENERATOR SERVICE

Generator maintenance software that knows every unit at every site down to the NFPA-110 due date.

The platform built for the generator service contractor — not the facility owner, not the OEM portal. Customer → Site → Generator → ATS as first-class records, the NFPA-110 weekly / monthly / annual cadence auto-generated per unit, dispatch by Generac / Kohler / Cummins certification tier, and the multi-day install lifecycle with permit gates — all on one record.

01  The standby-power data model

Every generator, every site, on one record — down to the NFPA-110 due date.

Most FSM tools treat a generator like a job line item. FieldCamp models it as a Generator as a Serviced Asset manufacturer, serial, kW, voltage, and OEM warranty expiry on one record.

Beneath it, the Automatic Transfer Switch, fuel tank, and battery live as nested custom objects, not a generic Equipment row. The generator record shows each role its own layout, and the OEM warranty Cummins, Generac, Kohler — sits on the record with the startup PDF. Run hours aren't native; they ride along as a custom field.

Run hours crossed 2,000hr — schedule the 2,000hr PMI before Jun 2027 warranty expiry?

Customer → Site → Generator

Generator as a Serviced Asset, explicitly named in the electrical data-model docs — manufacturer, model, serial, kW, voltage, install date, OEM warranty expiry on the record itself.

ATS as its own object

Transfer Switch is a nested custom object — UL 1008 rating, amperage, install date, last thermal scan — not jammed onto a generic Equipment row.

NFPA-110 status is a field

Per-generator NFPA-110 Level (1 or 2), last load bank, run hours (custom field — Equipment does not natively track hours), and next-due cadence row live on the record.

OEM warranty on the unit

Cummins 5yr/2,000hr, Generac 5yr, Kohler 5yr — provider, plan type, coverage, expiry, attached startup PDF on the Warranty record. Alerts wire through Workflows.

02  NFPA-110 cadence, built into the unit

Weekly, monthly 30/30, semi-annual, and annual load bank — auto-generated per generator.

NFPA-110 Chapter 8 is a four-cadence treadmill — weekly visual, monthly 30-minute exercise at 30% load, semi-annual PM, annual two-hour load bank. FieldCamp's Recurring Jobs engine auto-generates every one, per generator.

Each visit runs on a Job Form with required photos and a signature gate — auto-attached to the Generator PM Job Type — and guardrails stop the tech from closing until every field is captured. No one-click NFPA-110 report button — the signed PDFs in the per-site Drive folder become your binder.

03  The install project, phase by phase

From site survey to AHJ wet-witness — every phase, every permit, on one job.

A standby generator install is a multi-week, permit-gated project — survey to pad pour to AHJ wet-witness. FieldCamp wires the whole sequence as a multi-day job separate visits per phase, one parent record.

The Permit object lists Generator as a type with an Applied → Approved → Inspection → Closed lifecycle, and stage guardrails make the wet-witness step a real gate, not a hope — no placard photo and AHJ signature, no Closed. Job Types save the install template, all on the request → estimate → job → invoice backbone.

04  The OEM warranty channel, untangled

Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Briggs — one record per claim, four portals out.

Generac PowerPro, Cummins Care, Kohler OnCue — every OEM has its own portal, and FieldCamp doesn't replace any of them. It organizes the claim packet on the unit: a Warranty record with provider, plan, dates, and the startup PDF.

A Workflow fires 30 days before expiry — a documented pattern — to email the customer and draft the renewal. Hierarchical skill matching puts only Cummins-certified techs on Cummins claims, and the photos, claim form, and RMA live in the site's Drive folder, AI-searchable. Portal submission still happens in the OEM's app.

05  Outage Night

Storm hits, ATS A1 transfers — and the on-call mechanic is already inbound.

When Generator B-2 picks up Mercy's critical loads, the call lands in the unified inbox — phone, SMS, or forwarded CMMS email. The AI Dispatcher ranks on-call mechanics by Cummins cert level, distance, and load.

Drew, the L3, is paged with a 1-tap ETA link — Mercy facilities watch his truck cross the city.

Drew completes the NFPA-110 inspection checklist on his tablet — runtime hours, exhaust temp, battery, fuel level, ATS transfer test. Run hours are logged manually.

The form works offline in Mercy's basement utility room and syncs when he climbs back up — every reading, photo, and signature lands on Generator B-2's service history.

08  The PM flywheel

Weekly, monthly, semi-annual, annual — NFPA-110 cadence auto-scheduled.

Every standby generator runs a published cadence — weekly visual, monthly exercise, semi-annual fluids, annual load bank. FieldCamp's Recurring Jobs auto-generates each Visit on the right cadence.

When a visit completes, the next one auto-schedules — no spreadsheet, no missed PM, no NFPA gap at the next AHJ inspection.

09  Storm surge

200 generators hit at once — triage, dispatch, contain.

A regional outage drops 200 standby generators into emergency duty across BlueRoad's 9-site portfolio. Facility-CMMS calls aggregate in the Inbox via email forwarding.

The Command Center triages by SLA tier — hospitals first — routes by service area, and lights up the dispatch board across every available tech, back-up bench included.

10  Portfolio view

One BlueRoad account, 9 sites, 80 generators — one record set.

Legacy FSM tools force "one customer per site." FieldCamp's Customer → Site → Asset hierarchy holds one BlueRoad parent with 9 child sites, each carrying its own assets.

The multi-location data model rolls revenue, AR, and PM compliance up to portfolio level — and into a customer portal facility ops can self-serve from.

12  Why it matters

Three reasons generator contractors switch. And stay.

01

NFPA-110 is the contract.

Lose PM cadence and the AHJ flags it on the next inspection — and Joint Commission flags it on the next hospital survey. FieldCamp's recurring cadence engine keeps every generator on its weekly / monthly / semi-annual / annual loop, with the inspection form auto-attached.

02

The OEM warranty channel is the upsell.

Generac, Cummins, Kohler each have their own portal, claim format, and reimbursement timeline. FieldCamp logs the channel + claim # on the Generator + Warranty record so your tech files the RMA in the right portal — and your bookkeeper tracks the reimbursement.

03

Multi-site portfolios are a different shape.

One BlueRoad Properties account, 9 sites, 80 generators, 112 ATSes. The Customer → Site → Asset hierarchy + multi-location data model rolls revenue, AR, and PM compliance up to the portfolio without forcing one-customer-per-site hacks.

14  FAQ

Common questions generator contractors ask.

Generator maintenance software is the system of record a generator service contractor uses to manage every standby and prime-power generator under contract — from the unified inbox at outage-night through cert-gated dispatch, NFPA-110 inspection cadence, OEM warranty channel tracking (Generac / Cummins / Kohler), failed-ATS quoting, multi-day install jobs, and recurring MSA billing. FieldCamp ties Property → Generator → ATS into one record set so the contract, the cadence, the channel, and the customer portal all live in one platform.

NFPA-110 Chapter 8 requires a monthly 30-minute exercise at a minimum of 30% nameplate load (else an annual two-hour load bank @ 100%). FieldCamp uses Recurring Jobs at monthly cadence with a custom NFPA-110 inspection form auto-attached to the Visit. The technician logs runtime hours manually, completes the form, signs off — and the PDF is retained on the Generator record in Files & Drive.

Honestly: we don't directly post into Generac PowerPro, Cummins Care, or Kohler OnCue — those portals still need their own login. What FieldCamp does is log the channel + claim # as fields on a Warranty custom object linked to the Generator. The tech files the RMA in the OEM portal; FieldCamp tracks the channel, the date, the reimbursement timeline, and surfaces it on the Generator's warranty card.

No — those are telemetry platforms, and they stay in their own lane. FieldCamp is the dispatch, scheduling, NFPA-PMI, and billing platform that sits on top. Most contractors store the OEM telemetry portal URL as a link field on the Generator record so the tech can one-tap into the live readings during a PM visit.

Yes. The install runs as a Multi-Day Job (excavation Day 1 → set Day 2 → commissioning + AHJ wet-witness Day 3+). Permits (generator + transfer-switch permits are explicitly listed in the docs) attach as a custom Permits object to the install Job, each with permit number, AHJ, fees, and Applied → Approved → Inspection → Closed lifecycle.

Yes. Per the using-forms-in-the-field-mobile-guide, the field forms work offline — every reading, photo, signature, and Job Log entry is captured locally and syncs the moment the device gets bars back. Tested in basements and underground utility vaults.

The Customer → Site → Asset hierarchy (same shape documented for commercial-hvac) holds the portfolio parent customer with N child sites, each carrying its own assets. The multi-location data model rolls revenue, AR, PM compliance, and dispatch coverage up to the portfolio level — without forcing one-customer-per-site hacks.

A Service Agreement (modeled as a custom object) holds the standing PM-plan terms; Recurring Jobs auto-generates the Visits on cadence; the invoice generates per visit (or rolls up monthly) with auto-charge on the customer's card on file via Stripe. QuickBooks Online / Xero / Wave bidirectional sync pushes every entry — no double-keying.
